Posted by: Di at January 25, 2006 03:09 PMGood news. However, I was just reading an article commenting and comparing on two cases of writers facing jail, one being Orhan Pamuk and the other being David Irving. Irving is apparently facing jail in Austria for expressing holocaust denial views. I think the author of the article is Neil Brennant and he criticises the people condemning Turkey's treatment of Orhan Pamuk but conveniently ignoring the case of Irving. This is indeed a complex issue, but if free speech is a principle, then we cannot apply it selectively. These questions are not easily resolved, that is my conclusion. The article in question was translated in the Danish paper Weekendavisen.
